In April, some of my buddies and I decided to go to San Francisco for a quick getaway. I had only been to San Francisco once before, but I didn't feel like I had explored the city enough. There was a total of 8 of us going; my two sisters: Dedee and Liza, Angel, Jessica, Julian, Felipe, Anthony, and myself. Everyone had different flights throughout the weekend. And we had two adjacent-rooms on the 43rd floor at The W San Francisco. The name of our room said it all, we stayed in the "Spectacular Room", because we really did have the most"spectacular view" of the city!
On our first day in San Francisco, the girls flew in earlier than the boys, so we decided to do some sightseeing of our own. While trying to find a local place to eat, we met a couple of guys that recommended us to go have food and drinks at Kate O' Brien's Irish Grill. The Irish bar was okay. It is very small but luckily we were able to get a table outside, so we can people watch. The food was decent. I had a Shrimp Cocktail and it was a very small serving with not enough shrimps. I guess I'm used to the Shrimp Cocktails I usually have down in TJ, Rosarito, Chula Vista, or Miami....that's where they know how to make real Shrimp Cocktails. But my disappointment wasn't too bad because the drinks sure made up for the food. And then to our surprise, the two guys we had met earlier, showed up. They were both really nice guys and they were able to hang out for a bit. Later that day, we went back to the The W and met up with the rest of the crew and we all went shopping down Powell Street. They usually have all the same stores that we have here in San Diego but they are much bigger! I did buy some cute outfits but the only thing I did buy that is worth mentioning is a purple Maxi dress that I wore later that day. Funny enough, my friend Liz just wrote a blog today about how much she loves Maxi dresses. Yes, I agree with her 100% because you can wear them down with sandals or dress them up with heels. They really are a must to have in your closet!!
After a long day of walking and shopping, we decided to relax at The W San Francisco Wet Pool, which is located on the 4th floor. It is an inside pool but it has a panoramic glass, which gives you a feeling of being outdoors. We were the only ones up in the pool, so we had our own pool party with music and drinks. Later that night, we decided to hang out downstairs at the Living Room Bar. It has the most beautiful decor and lights. We had the best table, right next to one of their fireplaces and the DJ playing right next to us. This was an amazing way to end the night...
The next morning, we all met up and had Brunch at Chevy's, which is across the street from The W. We had delicious Margaritas and Mimosas, and I had some fish tacos, which of course, they were delicious because Chevy's is a Mexican restaurant. After brunch, some of us had a driver from The W drive us to Haight-Ashbury to check out the vintage shops and the rest of the group went sightseeing on a helicopter. I had never been vintage shopping, so I was ready for a new adventure; however, after 2-3 hours of shopping, I found out that I am not a vintage lover. Not one thing was appealing to me. Later that day, Julian and Anthony left to the Giant's baseball game, while we headed to Pier 39 to meet up with two more of our San Diego buddies, Tio & Seth. We all had dinner at Bubba Gump Shrimp and I must say that their food is DELICIOUS!! This is a must-eat-spot in San Francisco, not only is the food good but it has a beautiful view of the ocean. At Bubba Gump Shrimp I ordered the "Jenny's Catch with Lobster Butter Sauce", which was Tilapia over mashed potatoes with sauteed spinach and creamy butter lobster sauce. Nothing beats a delicious dinner than good food, a stunning view, enjoyable drinks, and great friends. After dinner and some exploring at Pier 39 we went back and partied back in our rooms, along with Tio, Seth, and Ricky, an old San Diego friend that currently lives in San Francisco. Our night ended with drinks, old stories, and some good laughs.
The following day was time for my sisters and I to go back home. The three of us caught an early flight back home, and as much as we love San Francisco, it is always nice to be back home. San Francisco is a fine city with so much to do and see. The food is amazing, there is so much culture, and I love that it is an architectural landmark. I still feel that I need to go back and do more exploration of this city.
